PRK / LASEK

PRK / LASEK

What is PRK?
PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) is a laser method used in the treatment of patients with refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism.
What is LASEK?
Lasek is based on the principle of removing the epithelial tissue in the eye with the help of alcohol. After the laser is applied, the epithelium spreads back to its place. Although safe results are obtained with these two surface methods, patients may experience burning, stinging and watering for 2-3 days. On average, vision becomes clear in 1 week-10 days.
Who is PRK / LASEK Laser Applied to?
  • Persons over the age of 18
  • People whose corneal thickness is suitable for the Lasek method
  • People without systemic disease
  • People who do not have corneal sharpening, eye pressure, etc.
  • People who are not pregnant or breastfeeding
PRK and lasek are generally applied in eyes whose corneal thickness is not sufficient for lasik treatment. In this patient group, it is important that the progress in eyeglasses numbers has stopped and that the patients are over the age of 18. The corneal tissue thickness needed in laser treatments applied for the treatment of myopia, astigmatism and hyperopia varies according to the degree of refractive error. Lasik is generally not applied to people with a corneal thickness of less than 500 microns, and PRK treatment can be applied to these people with thin corneas depending on the amount of correction to be made.
