Gastric sleeve surgery is one of the most appropriate treatment methods for patients with advanced stage obesity who are defined as morbidly obese and have a body mass index higher than 40 kg/m2. In addition, although the body mass index is less than 40 kg/m2, it can be safely applied in obese patients if the patient has problems such as cardiac, respiratory, diabetes and hypertension. Almost all of the patients who underwent sleeve gastrectomy surgery get rid of approximately 55% of their excess weight within the first year. The complication rate due to the operation was reported to be only 0.08%, and therefore sleeve gastrectomy surgery has been accepted as one of the safe methods for almost all obesity patients. In 66% of the patients, it was observed that the findings related to diabetes disappeared completely and the general health status improved extremely quickly.
In line with all this information, it is possible to say that laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy surgery is the most preferred application for people diagnosed with morbid obesity, alone or in combination with other treatment methods.
